Android Set To Leapfrog Apple Already?

Does the above title seem to be placing the Android on a pedestal way too early, and thus an exaggeration? Well, sample this, in the past year the Android has recorded a doubling of its market share, while Apple has suffered a loss of market share of 8%.
Android-based smartphones have the major share of the United Kingdom market pie, RIM's BlackBerry comes second, while Apple comes a sorry third. These numbers have been churned by research firm Kantar Worldpanel. According to the data, Android has 47.1% of the market, compared with 22.9% earlier, while Apple is down from 28% to 20%.
Is this a knee-jerk reaction to iconic leader Steve Jobs' long speculated departure or is there a deeper cause to the Android wave? More importantly, can Apple check this widening gap, time shall tell.
